The news recently of six children and young adults killing themselves, because of bullying against perceived or real homosexuality, is more than disturbing, it is a statement about the times we live in. I know that so many more people are allowed to live free as LBGT persons now, than in the past, but it is telling that our youth are still being targeted by hate and bigotry. Don't just sit there and say how sad. The next time you hear someone say, "Oh, that's so gay." Stop them. Ask them what they really mean. Or if you hear young children calling another child, "Fag" or "Lezzie," stop them. Ask them what they really mean. Do they really mean to defame the person they're talking to or are they just mimicking behavior, learned more than likely at home. The point is, don't just sit there. Act. Act now, before more of our precious youths end their lives.
"I believe all Americans who believe in freedom, tolerance and human rights have a responsibility to oppose bigotry and prejudice based on sexual orientation." -Coretta Scott King
